While on the way home from dinner, Tony had to brake a little sharply because of the car in front of him.
Madelyn: Sorry, Mommy, I pulled the brake.
Me: Oh, okay.
Madelyn: Actually, it was Caroline. I was just joking.
Me: Okay, Caroline did it?
Madelyn: Yeah, let me ask her why she pulled the brake.... She said it was because there is a car in front of us.
Me: So, Caroline pulled the brake because of the car in front of us?
Madelyn: Yup.
(Anyone ever have an "imaginary" friend who was actually someone you know in real life? This is a little odd....)

Talking about me having the girls home Monday morning during my dad's doctor's appointment:
Madelyn: Grandma is going?
Me: Yup.
Madelyn: And Grandpa is going?
Me: Yup.
Madelyn: Is G.G. going?
Me: No. She'll be home.
Madelyn: But someone needs to watch her!
(Quite astute for an almost 4-year-old.)

While "eating" her dinner, quietly to herself:
"What are they doing with that spoon? It's coming to pick up those potatoes! We better stop it! Boop, boop, boop. It's picking up the potatoes!"

To her sister who was eating something she found on the floor.
"Sister, don't do that! Come play with me."

(Today was hard because really all she did all day was whine.)
While drinking her milk and eating dinner:
"Mommy, why does G.G. take her pills?"

Madelyn and I went shopping this afternoon. On the way home, I was reminding her not to tell her daddy what she bought him for Christmas and that it was a surprise.
Me: Remember, don't tell Daddy and ruin the surprise.
Madelyn: Why not?
Me: Because it's a Christmas gift. You don't want him to know what it is before Christmas.
Madelyn: Okay, I'll just tell him that I got him something.
Me: No, don't even tell him that.
Madelyn: But then what do I tell him?
Me: Don't tell him anything. Pretend like you didn't get anything.
Madelyn: Um, okay then.
(For the record, she did not say anything to Tony. Yes, Tony knows from me for this Madelynism that Madelyn got him a gift, but he does not know what it is and he is going to act like he doesn't know anything.)

Me: Madelyn, what do you want for dinner?
Madelyn: Hmmmm.... Let me think about it....
