07 June 2015

Madelyn won a duck with yellow, red, and green hair wearing black glasses on the boardwalk yesterday. She was playing with it in the car on the way home today.
Madelyn: Why is the duck wearing glasses?
Tony, joking: It's trying to be a hipster duck.
Madelyn, confused: What's a hamster duck?

Alyson was talking to herself and playing with the stuffed animals we won on the boardwalk as we were driving home. Madelyn suddenly said to her, "I like listening to you, Alyson. You're cute making up words."

We used the self checkout at Giant to pay for the few things we were buying. When Madelyn heard the computerized woman's voice from the checkout machine, she commented, "Wow, she speaks really nicely!"

While we were talking before Madelyn went to bed:

Madelyn: I want to get up early tomorrow so that we can leave early and I can take a nap in the car.
Me: Um, okay.
Madelyn: What time should I get up? 6:30?
Me: That's what time you normally get up.
Madelyn: Okay. Then, I'll get up at 3:30.
Me: Um. No.
Madelyn: Why not?
Me: Because that's really early. It's still the middle of the night.
Madelyn: Oh.

Me: Hey Madelyn, guess who I found out will be in Rehoboth this weekend as well?
Madelyn: I don't know. Who?
Me: Mrs. Matteo.

Madelyn's jaw dropped and she stood there staring at me in disbelief. Then, she ran off to play some more.

Talking about our upcoming trip to Rehoboth this weekend:

Me: Friday morning, we'll get a snack to eat in the car. Then, when we're over the Bay Bridge, we'll stop somewhere special for breakfast.
Madelyn: Cracker Barrel?!
Me, a little surprised that she knew what I was talking about: Yup.
Madelyn: Woo hoo! I'm going to get pancakes that I always get!!

01 June 2015

Maybe she's starting to grasp time a little better. While playing with Alyson, I overheard Madelyn tell her, "It'll only take 5 minutes. No wait, it's shorter than that. It'll take 5 seconds." Then, she counted to five.
