Kids can be so literal.
Tony to Madelyn: Get your shoes.
Madelyn: Why?
Tony, teasingly not telling her: Because we're going somewhere that needs shoes.
Madelyn, getting her shoes on: Where are we going?
Tony: Somewhere that needs shoes.
After a couple minutes she figured out that we were going for a walk.
Madelyn: Are we going for a walk?
Me: Yes, we're going for a walk.
Madelyn: Then why did Daddy say that we were going somewhere that needs shoes?
Me: You need shoes to go for a walk, right?
Madelyn: Yeah, but why did he say we were going somewhere?
Me: Walking around the block isn't going somewhere?
