31 March 2015

On the way home, Madelyn started talking about what she wanted to pack for San Diego. She wanted to make sure that we pack her bathing suit. That led to talking about the beach and pool, which led to talking about going to North Myrtle Beach again this summer:

"I hope my boyfriend is there. What was his name? I don't remember his name."

30 March 2015

Creative names are not her forte:

While we were outside playing, Madelyn came up to me with a leaf she had found and said, "This is my leaf! His name is 'Leafy'."

29 March 2015

Madelyn and I went to Target this afternoon because she needed new dress shoes before Easter. After picking out her shoes from the maybe three pairs they had in her size, we went to my part of the shoe section so that I could see if they had anything for me.

Madelyn as I pulled out a pair of shoes to try on: Who are those shoes for?
Me: Who do you think they might be for?
Madelyn: Well, they look WAY too big for me.
Me: Do they look like they might fit my feet.
Madelyn: Oh, they're for you....

28 March 2015

This afternoon, we watched "Pocahontas". At the end when John Smith is leaving to go back to England and Pocahontas tells him that even though she is staying with her people, she will always be with him, Madelyn started crying (again - the first time was because Pocahontas's necklace broke).

Tony: Why are you crying now?
Madelyn, crying: Because that's the sweetest thing I ever heard!

27 March 2015

Earlier in the week, Tony gave Madelyn a citrus Lindt truffle in her lunch. Since the wrapper is green, she had assumed it was a mint chocolate one and complained about it to us. Once she tasted it, she liked the candy. So, Tony gave her the citrus one Wednesday and today as her treat in her lunch.

While talking about her day:

Me: Did you eat all of your lunch?
Madelyn: Yup!
Me: What about the candy?
Madelyn: Yup!
Me, teasing: What flavor was it?
Madelyn: Umm.... The same as Wednesday!
Me: Which was?
Madelyn: Succulent! A succulent is a type of plant that grows where it's dry.
Me: I think you mean citrus.
Madelyn: Oh yeah. There's a succulent that has liquid inside that's good for your skin!
Me: Aloe?
Madelyn: Yeah!

26 March 2015

(Disclaimer: She really didn't get hurt, and it was really hard not to laugh at her.)

After we got home today, the girls were outside playing while I was working on my roses. Both of them had taken their sunglasses outside, but neither were wearing them.

Madelyn ran up the side steps on our porch and continued running on the porch toward the front corner of the house to go around to the front part of the porch. Next thing I knew, she ran straight into the side of the house and bounced off like she was a ball that had been thrown against the wall. She landed on her butt on the porch.

Me: Are you okay?
Madelyn, getting up and starting to walk down to me: Yeah....
Me: What happened?

Madelyn looked like she was getting ready to cry.

Me: Are you sure you're okay?

She started to cry.

Me: Did you get hurt?
Madelyn, rubbing her nose: I hit my nose.
Me, looking at it and not seeing any blood or bruising: Okay, let's go in and get some ice.

I yelled for Alyson and we went inside. Madelyn put ice on her nose (which meant Alyson also needed ice).

Madelyn, calming down: I didn't want the sun in my eyes, so I closed my eyes.
Me: And ran into the house.
Madelyn: Yeah....
Me: Where are your sunglasses that you had outside? Why weren't you wearing them?
Madelyn: I don't know.

We went back outside, Madelyn got her sunglasses, and wore them the rest of the time we were outside.

25 March 2015

Madelyn was explaining healthy foods to us today during dinner:

"Fruits and vegetables are healthy for you, like celery. I don't really like celery but that's okay."

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

24 March 2015

While talking about how healthy each part of dinner tonight was:

"If you eat healthy things it'll be good to stay alive and meet new people!"

Not so sure of the logic behind this one.

23 March 2015

Alyson admitted that she was tired on the way home today. Then, before dinner, she tried to convince Madelyn to go to bed early.
Alyson: Mana (Madelyn) go bed early?
Madelyn: No! I do not want to go to bed early!
Alyson, begging: Please?
Madelyn: Nnnnoooooo!!!!!!!

22 March 2015

While playing and looking at a toy tape measure:
Madelyn: Oh my gosh! 12 o’clock! 30 o’clock!
Tony: you can't tell time with a tape measure. It's for distance.
Madelyn: Oh....

21 March 2015

After we got home from dinner, Madelyn wanted to have Family Game Night before bed.

Me: Okay, we have a half hour to play a game.
Madelyn: Okay. If we have a half hour, how long will that be?
Me: A half hour.
Madelyn: Oh. Okay!

20 March 2015

While watching the Maryland/Valparaiso game:

"What's the orange team? Pumpkin World?"

Thursday, March 19, 2015

19 March 2015

Madelyn is Superstar for her class next week. Today, she brought home Teddy for a weekend of fun and excitement (or something like that). She explained to me that younger siblings are not allowed to play with Teddy.

"If they're baby brothers, they cannot because they're going to spread slobber."

Um, well, okay....

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

18 March 2015

While they were playing after we got home:

Madelyn: Great saver, animator! Get it?
Me: No.
Madelyn: Aly, do you get it?
Alyson: Uh huh.
Madelyn: Really? Nonsense and you get it?

Tuesday, March 17, 2015

17 March 2015

During dinner, Madelyn was telling us about the leprechaun at school that was being mischievous:

"I think it was just a mouse dressed in a costume."

Monday, March 16, 2015

16 March 2015

English is confusing. Madelyn was working on her Alphabet Journal today after we got home. The letter was "X".

Madelyn: I know! X-it!
Me: But "exit" starts with "e".
Madelyn: No! It's X-it!
Me: It's spelled e-x-i-t.
Madelyn: I don't care. How do I draw an "exit" sign?

She ended up drawing an "exit" sign with doors, spelling it correctly, and circling the "x".

Sunday, March 15, 2015

15 March 2015

As we were leaving the pool this morning, Madelyn was telling me what they did in class.

Madelyn: We scooped four different flavors of ice cream.
Me: Okay....
Madelyn: Not for real! It was just pretend!

Saturday, March 14, 2015

14 March 2015

Madelyn and Emlyn were sitting next to each other on the couch. I was behind them and didn't know what was going on, but I randomly heard Madelyn say to Emlyn, "You're a cute little child. Did you know that?"

13 March 2015

This week in school, Madelyn learned the "Our Father". She was reciting it for us at dinner.

Me, trying to make sure she realized when we say that prayer: When do we say the Our Father?
Madelyn: At church.
Me, looking for her to answer something about holding hands: What are we doing when we are saying it?
Madelyn: Praying it.
Me: Well, yes....

12 March 2015

I think Madelyn is confused about the change of seasons, or this describes Maryland just right. You be the judge.

Tony picked the girls up today. As they were leaving Mom's house, Madelyn declared:

"It's so cool and warm out here!"

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

11 March 2015

Tony brought home Panera for dinner since me + stomach bug = not fixing dinner. When Madelyn got home and realized that he got Panera, she insisted, "Daddy, you HAD to get me mac and cheese!" There was no asking if he got her mac and cheese, just certainty that it happened. Luckily, it had.

10 March 2015

Madelyn came out from the playroom to excitedly show us her DUPLO creation. It was an airplane, and a pretty good one actually:

"Look! I made an airplane! It's red because red is one of my favorite colors because it's a color in the rainbow. I used a swing for where the pilot sits. And, there's room for someone to fly in the plane. Caroline is flying in the plane because she's old enough to fly by herself."

She then took the plane and threw it to the floor.

"It doesn't really fly, only pretend."

09 March 2015

After watching "Big Hero 6" again today, Madelyn was randomly singing to herself, "We could be mortals...." (Actual lyric is "We could be immortals") She also continued her trend of a million questions after watching a movie.

Sunday, March 8, 2015

08 March 2015

Her "informercial" while playing in the bath:

"If we mix this water up, we get clorax. That can be used to clean walls! And not just walls, but people, too!"

Saturday, March 7, 2015

07 March 2015

We started sorting our millions of LEGOs today. While we were working on it:

Me, half jokingly: So many bricks! So many LEGOs!
Madelyn, in the same tone of voice I used: You can do it, Mommy!

Friday, March 6, 2015

06 March 2015

While working on the letter "F" in her alphabet journal:

Madelyn: "Fat" starts with "f"!
Me: How are you going to draw "fat"? Are you going to draw a fat person?
Madelyn: I'll draw a big, fat circle!

Thursday, March 5, 2015

05 March 2015

The girls took a really long bath this morning since they normally don't get to do that. While in the bath:

Alyson: Farting!
Me: Aly, are you pooping in the bath?
Madelyn: I don't see any poop in the pool, I mean bath.

Wednesday, March 4, 2015

04 March 2015

A lesson in rhyming:

"Frogs and a log does not rhyme, but a frog on a log does rhyme!"

Tuesday, March 3, 2015

03 March 2015

First

Madelyn: Why don't you stay alive forever?
Tony: Because your body breaks down.
Madelyn: Down down down....

Second

Me: Alright, who's ready to go to bed?
In unison, both girls raised their hands and excitedly yelled: ME!!!!

Monday, March 2, 2015

02 March 2015

While we were at the bank today, Madelyn saw a portrait on the wall and excitedly told me, "Mommy! That's George Washington! And Abraham Lincoln is back by the exit!" Awesome to see that she's learning so much.

01 March 2015

Classic kid:

Right after swimming class: I did a gazillion bobs during class today!

A little while later during lunch: I did a hundred bobs during class today!

While Tony was fixing dinner: I did ten bobs during class today!

Right before bed: I did five bobs on one end of the pool and five bobs on the other, so I did ten bobs.

Looks like she really did ten bobs during class today.
