31 March 2016

I was telling Madelyn about a training I'm going to have to travel to for work.

Me: I can't do the one that's local because that's the week we'll be in Myrtle. I'll have to go to one of the other ones.
Madelyn: Well, if you wanted to, you could just go to the training and we'll go to the beach.
Me: Um, no!
Madelyn: Just saying you could if you wanted to....

She got tickled for that one.

30 March 2016

The girls were playing with Legos and were incorporating a lot of the figures into a story based on Doc McStuffins. Constantly from the living room one would say, "Pretend..." and some idea. Then, they would do it. Eventually, I picked up on the story line they were playing.

Me: Are you pretending that Doc turned into a toy?
Madelyn: Yeah! It was Alyson's idea!
Me: That's a really cool idea!
Madelyn, in shock: Really?!?!

29 March 2016

This afternoon, the girls and I were looking at Tony's Amazon wish list to pick something to order for his birthday. We picked one item, and then I added a couple more to the cart. Madelyn was surprised and asked, "We're not buying all of it, are we?!?!"

28 March 2016

While in the car on the way back from the Aquarium, Alyson wanted to play with Madelyn.

Alyson: Let's play sisters!
Madelyn: Ummmm... We ARE sisters!

27 March 2016

While at Mom and Dad's for Easter today, we were talking about Harry Potter some, specifically about kids watching the movies before reading the books. Madelyn was in shock and exclaimed, "You HAVE to read the books before you see the movies!"

26 March 2016

Madelyn was almost finished her dinner tonight, but still had a lot of asparagus left. She actually had already eaten a lot and had a lot to begin with. We all know little kids often have problems pronouncing words. This was one of those times, when Madelyn told us, "I'm not going to finish my exparigus."

25 March 2016

During dinner I was talking about the stability chambers at work.

Madelyn: Every time you say "chamber" I think "Chamber of Secrets"!
Me: Well, most of them are just the size of a big refrigerator. But, our new one is a room, so you can walk into it. It could be like the Chamber of Secrets.
Madelyn: You should call it the Chamber of Secrets!
Me: That would be better than WSC01 for walk-in stability chamber 01. We could call it Chamber of Secrets 01.
Madelyn: Yeah!
Me: Wait, it should be Chamber of Secrets 02 since there is already a Chamber of Secrets at Hogwarts.
Madelyn: Only call it that with us. Don't tell anyone else. Are you going to tell your group on Facebook?

("Group on Facebook" refers to the Hogwarts Running Club.)

24 March 2016

Due to Spring Break, both girls were at Mom and Dad's today and will be there again tomorrow. When I got there to pick them up there were toys everywhere:

Mom: We're still busy!
Madelyn: We can always finish it tomorrow!

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

23 March 2016

Madelyn's homework today was to count the number of faces on a cube and the number of faces on a cylinder and add them together. After she found a tissue box and counted the faces, Madelyn declared, "I don't need to find a cylinder! I know cylinders!"

22 March 2016

Madelyn and I were discussing if we are going to walk to her t-ball practice on Thursday or take the bike and trailer.

Madelyn: I'm probably too big for the trailer now!
Me: You're probably still okay.
Madelyn: Too bad you don't have a bike for two because then I could just ride with you. Or, you could use one of those baby seats on your bike, but I would be too big for that, too.

21 March 2016

Alyson was having a mommy's girl moment at the end of dinner today because she wanted me to clean her up and not Tony.

Alyson, starting to cry: But I love Mommy so I need Mommy to clean me up!
Madelyn, being the annoyed big sister: Are you going to die without it?

(Tony did clean Alyson up, and then we got her laughing by making pouty faces and fake crying with her. She thought we were silly.)

Sunday, March 20, 2016

20 March 2016

Madelyn started asking us why the days of the week have the names they do. She gave us her opinion on Sunday, "Maybe Sunday is called 'Sunday' because sometimes in the summer it's sunny."

Saturday, March 19, 2016

19 March 2016

While at the grocery store this morning, Tony and Madelyn had to get something from the cereal aisle. Madelyn noticed a super sugary sprinkled donut cereal and exclaimed, "That's for dessert! Not breakfast!"

Friday, March 18, 2016

18 March 2016

After school today, Madelyn was describing the pictures she brought home today. She had drawn her best friend/"boyfriend" who moved to another state in one of her pictures and told us that they "have a long difference relationship."

Thursday, March 17, 2016

17 March 2016

Madelyn was a little disappointed when she came home from school today and told me, "The Leprechaun didn't come and run though the halls today like he did when I was in preschool."

Wednesday, March 16, 2016

16 March 2016

Right after Madelyn got home from school, we went outside to play catch with her new glove for t-ball. After we came inside, Madelyn finished her homework. When she was done with that:

Madelyn: I don't know what to do!
Me: There's lots you can do. You can color more. You can clean up the playroom.
Madelyn, as she walked away from me: Which is not an offer I'm going to accept....

Tuesday, March 15, 2016

15 March 2016

While walking home from the bus stop, the older girl who normally walks home with us started climbing some of the trees. One tree let her grab the branches, walk up the tree trunk, and almost hang upside down by her feet. Madelyn laughed at her and yelled, "You look like a sloth!"

14 March 2016

Before saying good night:

Me: I emailed your teacher today. I asked if she knew when your spring field trip is going to be.
Madelyn, worried: It's not going to be during Spring Break, is it?

Sunday, March 13, 2016

13 March 2016

Tony and I were talking about the time change during dinner tonight. Madelyn looked at us like we each had three heads. We explained to her how we spring forward in the Spring and fall back in the Fall and what that does to the time. Her response was perfect, "What?!?! That's crazy!" We explained to her a bit of the history and why it's "theoretically" done, but she didn't believe us.

Saturday, March 12, 2016

12 March 2016

Madelyn and Alyson were playing catch with a plush soccer ball. Madelyn threw it at Alyson's forehead and it bounced off and Alyson didn't catch it. Madelyn then complained, "She doesn't know how to catch!"

11 March 2016

Madelyn's music teacher at school retired two weeks ago. Today was the second class she had with their new teacher. We all sat down to dinner, and Madelyn excitedly announced, "Daddy, I LOVED my music class today!"

Thursday, March 10, 2016

10 March 2016

Madelyn's homework today was to make a list of cone-shaped items in our house. After a couple of minutes of "doing" her homework, she yelled to me, "I don't have to do my homework because I can't find anything cone shaped in the house!" Sorry, kiddo, that isn't how it works. I gave her a few hints for things and she found some cones.

Wednesday, March 9, 2016

09 March 2016

During dinner I had Madelyn try some salad with the poppy seed dressing I was having. She didn't like it because it was sour to her. I then had Alyson try some.

Alyson: I don't like it because it's sour!
Madelyn to Alyson: Copy tail! I mean copy kid!

No, Madelyn, you mean "copy cat."

Tuesday, March 8, 2016

08 March 2016

I packed Madelyn's lunch last night. Tony got it out of the refrigerator this morning just like every other morning. When Madelyn got home today and was putting her dirty lunch containers away:

Madelyn: Why didn't you give me an ice pack today?
Me: I didn't get your lunch together this morning.
Madelyn, pointing to the note in her lunch: But you wrote my note. You packed my lunch.
Me: But Daddy gets your lunch out of the fridge every morning. Was I here this morning when he did that?
Madelyn: Oh, yeah. No, you weren't....

Monday, March 7, 2016

07 March 2016

Before breakfast this morning, Madelyn picked a Larabar to take to school for her snack during school breakfast. Tony was telling me about it during dinner.

Tony: In the time from taking her Larabar from the table to her backpack, she lost it.
Me to Madelyn: How did you do that?
Madelyn: I dunno. Magic?

The Larabar was in her backpack, she just forgot she put it where it was supposed to go and didn't see it.

Sunday, March 6, 2016

06 March 2016

Tony took the girls to Target today to pick up a few things, including more vitamins for them.

Madelyn, as they walk into the store: So, what do we need? Vitamins?
Tony: Yes, but we'll get some other things first.
Madelyn, after they got some packing tape: So, now what's next? Vitamins?
Tony: No, we're going to look for laundry baskets.
Madelyn, after they got laundry baskets: So, now what's next? Vitamins?

Repeat, repeat, and repeat until they got the vitamins, which was the last thing.

Saturday, March 5, 2016

05 March 2016

I turned on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets this afternoon since it was on during the Harry Potter Weekend. Madelyn realized what it was and that it was during a "scary" part of the movie. She kept telling me, "I don't want to watch, but I can't stop watching!"

Friday, March 4, 2016

04 March 2016

Madelyn was showing me what she learned in her music class today. She was keeping a steady beat while banging together two sticks and counting.

Me: You have pretty good rhythm unlike your grandpa.
Madelyn: Well, if he got some lessons from me, he would probably be good at it.

Thursday, March 3, 2016

03 March 2016

Madelyn tried out her thermos with leftover spaghetti in it for lunch today. It was still warm at lunch, and she was excited.

Me: You can have more hot things for lunches if you want.
Madelyn: I could have tomato soup for lunch! Or mac and cheese! Or yogurt!
Me: Yogurt is cold. You can have cold things in it, but I thought you wanted hot food.
Madelyn: Oh yeah....

Wednesday, March 2, 2016

02 March 2016

While I was fixing dinner tonight, which was spaghetti and meatballs, I was also cooking some chicken to use in dinner tomorrow (Thursday). Tony and I often take leftovers for lunch the next day. It's the Lenten season right now, so we can't eat meat on Fridays.

Madelyn: What is that chicken for?
Me: It's to go in tomorrow's dinner. I'm cooking it now because I won't have time otherwise.
Madelyn: You and  Daddy aren't going to take the leftovers for lunch on Friday, are you?!?!

Tuesday, March 1, 2016

01 March 2016

Madelyn was showing me what was in her folder today after school, including her March homework calendar. I wanted to see the calendar.

Me, after picking up Madelyn's new Harry Potter wand that was on the couch next to me and pointing it at Madelyn: Accio homework paper!
Madelyn grinned and excitedly walked the paper over to me: You used magic!
