14 February 2015

Madelyn finished building her Lego emergency vehicles set today. In the 10 minutes or so that she actually played with it, things got a little intense:

"There is going to be a fire emergency on top of the ambulance soon! Oh my gosh! (she put the Lego fire on top of the ambulance) There it is now! The little boy is really afraid of the fire!"

The firetruck then went to put the fire out.

While over at Mom's before leaving to come home, Alyson insisted on sitting on my lap in one of the dining room chairs multiple times. After she got down once, Madelyn wanted her turn. So, she sat in my lap on one of the hard wooden chairs for at least five minutes. When she finally decided to get down, she stated, "I want to get down! My butt hurts!"

As she put her cup that had had apple juice in it into the sink, Madelyn said, "That was very intense. (slight pause) What does that mean?"

11 February 2015

While I was combing her hair after bath tonight, Madelyn was asking me about the step stool in her room that a former coworker of mine painted.

Madelyn: Who painted my stool again?
Me: Someone I used to work with.
Madelyn: When will we get to see them again?
Me: I don't know. She moved to California.
Madelyn: Does she still live in California? Why hasn't the earthquake destroyed it yet?

Sorry everyone in California, but you may want to take that as a warning....

While helping get the trash together to take out, Madelyn looked into an empty bathroom trashcan and called, "Hello!" I laughed at her, and she looked up at me, smiled, and asked, "What?"

Random questions:

Madelyn: Mommy, what's your favorite word?
Me, after thinking a bit: Plethora.
Madelyn: Okay.... Daddy, what's your favorite word?
Tony: Defenestration.
Madelyn: Huh?
Me: Defenestration is to throw something or someone out of a window, but people usually use it to mean throwing someone out of a window.
Madelyn: I don't want to be defenestrated! That would hurt!
Me: It probably would. What is your favorite word?
Madelyn: Penelope.

The Entrance Hymn this morning at Mass was "The King of Glory". The refrain is "The King of Glory comes, the nation rejoices. Open the gates before him, lift up your voices." This afternoon, Madelyn told everyone, "The song at church this morning was lift up your horses." After that, we heard her singing "lift up your horses" to herself.
